Brief Description
The overall goal of the project is to foster and boost intra-African trade expansion, leading to sustained economic growth and inclusive development through dedicated support to the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA), and thereby facilitating a process of inclusive structural transformation of African countries. The trade performance of African countries is mostly weak, African exports have relatively limited product and market diversification, and only around 10% of African trade is with other African countries (mostly within each REC) - which leaves African countries vulnerable to external macroeconomic shocks. In order to fulfil the above-mentioned goal, the project therefore intends to provide training to selected stakeholders, including the above countries, RECs (CEN-SAD, COMESA, EAC, ECCAS or UDEAC, ECOWAS, IGAD, SADC and UMA) and the AU, and their policy-makers/experts, officials or private sector representatives. This should enhance their knowledge and capacity for the measures needed at national, regional and/or continental levels to help establish the CFTA and boost intra-African trade in goods and services (particularly transport, professional, financial and ICT), with related fostering or value addition for regional supply chains in agricultural commodities and processed food products.
