Brief Description
This project looks at the potential of bioenergies and of policies in support of their development in the African context, with particular emphasis on liquid biofuels because of their far-reaching positive effects. The immediate objective, therefore, is to unlock the potential of participatory biofuels, as one of the options for renewables to play a meaningful role in Africa's economic transformation and economic agenda. It is expected that the project will lead to (a) establish-ment of harmonized financial, institutional and policy frameworks for the promotion of biofuels mainly for household and transport end uses in Africa; (b) enhanced capacity of African coun-tries to formulate and implement gender sensitive policies and programmes on biofuel develop-ment; and (c) improved capacity of African countries to identify and develop biofuels pro-grammes and projects to achieve sustainable development and poverty reduction.
