Brief Description

Recognizing the importance of delivering quality and equitable public services for the promotion of development in general, and specifically for the achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) the Project will aim at building the capacity of the public sector in least developed countries to deliver quality services equitably through the transfer and adaptation of innovative public administration practicesThis Project builds on the extensive work conducted by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), particularly in the context of the United Nations Public Service Awards Programme (UNPSA) to collect, reward, disseminate and share knowledge on innovative practices in public administration. The method of sharing knowledge about innovative practices in service delivery has been well acknowledged and endorsed by the United Nations, through support to the UNPSA. This method involves transferring and adapting the available knowledge, based on innovations in service delivery, to least developed countries for enhancing the capacity of public servants at the local level. The project will be executed through the organization and conduct of: (i) an expert group meeting, (ii) capacity development workshops, (iii) on-line training programmes (iv) practitioner-to-practitioner workshops, including study tours; and (v) a publication containing lessons learned on transferring and adapting innovative practices in public administration. The project will involve cooperation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT).
