Brief Description

The project aims to strengthen, through technical assistance, the capacity of six small island developing States (Kiribati, Sao Tome and Principe, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Vanuatu) that are also on the list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to enhance their economic resilience and achieve structural progress toward graduation from LDC status. These States have shown interest in benefiting, or continuing to benefit, from UNCTAD's cooperation in this area.

Objective and Expected Outcomes

Objective
To help six SIDS in the Atlantic Ocean, the Timor Sea and the South Pacific region to enhance their capacity to build economic resilience and to make the challenge of graduation from Least Developed Country status an opportunity to increase chances of structural transformation
Expected Outcome 1
Enhanced understanding, among policy makers and other government officials in beneficiary countries, of the various dimensions and policy implications of economic vulnerability and resilience-building
Expected Outcome 2
Increased understanding, among public officials in benefiting countries, of ways to enhance the competitiveness of existing economic sectors, and to make viable diversification into new sectors possible
