Brief Description

High quality economic and environmental statistics are important inputs into evidence based policy formulation and decision-making. Additionally, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include a large number of indicators for which high quality economic and environmental statistics will be critical, including Goals 2, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14 and 15. In order to respond to the increased demand for detailed and timely data to monitor progress towards the goals and targets of the SDGs, considerable, concerted, and sustained investment in improving the statistical production process using an integrated statistics approach is required. The project objective is to strengthen the capacity of selected African countries in the production and compilation of natural capital accounts and the resulting indicators to support the measuring, monitoring, and reporting of the SDGs. This will be accomplished through a series of direct technical assistance missions to countries, regional and national workshops on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA).
