Brief Description

The objective of the project Fostering Technological Development for Participatory Approaches towards the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in Western Asia (1617EA) is to build the capacity of Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Member States to utilize technology to increase transparency and accountability and to adopt more effective and efficient participatory approaches in order to address root causes of conflict and prevent its potential relapse. The project accomplishes this through three components: 1) increase the capacity of Member States to assess the damage, loss, and overall impacts of conflict, as well as institutional needs, through the development of and training on an assessment methodology; 2) increase the capacity of stakeholders in ESCWA Member States, including civil society institutions, to apply a participatory approach; and 3) build the technological capacity of Member States to effectively use technology to enhance transparency and implement the participatory approach to governance and service delivery more effectively and efficiently through utilization of emerging technological trends, such as open government, open data, extended and highly interactive services.
