Brief Description
Science, technology and innovation (STI) are critical means for achieving sustainable development. They have the potential to increase the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of our efforts to meet the ambitious 2030 Agenda and create benefits for society, the economy and the environment. Yet, STI can also be a source of inequality and exclusion, when Least-Developed Countries (LCDs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Asia-Pacific do not have the necessary capabilities to make full use of the potential that technology and innovation offer for addressing sustainable goals. The main objective of this project is to strengthen the capacity of developing countries, in particular LDCs in South Asia, Southeast Asia and SIDS in the Pacific, to formulate evidence-based, integrated and inclusive innovation and technology policies. Through such policies the countries should be able to use STI as an effective means of implementation for the achievement of the SDGs.
Objective and Expected Outcomes
Objective
To strengthen the capacity of developing countries, in particular least developed countries in South Asia, Southeast Asia and small island developing states to adopt evidence-based, integrated and inclusive innovation and technology policies for effective implementation and achievement of the SDGs
Expected Outcome 1
Enhanced capacity of policymakers to formulate and/or adopt evidence-based, integrated and inclusive innovation and technology policies, strategies or mechanisms
Expected Outcome 2
Enhanced sub-regional, and regional sharing of best practices on evidence-based, integrated and inclusive innovation and technology policies
