Brief Description
The project will be implemented by ECLAC in collaboration with the UN Environment, and will work at both the sub-regional and national levels. At the sub-regional level, activities will focus on identifying, defining and achieving stakeholder consensus on the key policies and actions to be recommended as part of the process of achieving environmental sustainability in the region. National level activities will then seek to strengthen capacities in four target countries to mainstream and implement policies and instruments to promote the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda, into national strategies and plans. Considering the environmental problems of the region, it is very clear that coherent policies across sectors are needed. By promoting environmental big push policies this project will support countries in taking advantage of their rich environmental heritage and improving their environmental footprint, and thus integrating more fully the environmental pillar of the development agenda in their development strategies. Furthermore, scaling up the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda will promote a south-south learning process as countries learn from one another.
