Brief Description

Inefficient use of energy resources in Latin American and Caribbean countries has lead to significant social, environmental and economic drawbacks that have obstructed the implementation of national and regional sustainable development goals. In order to deal with the issue, there is an urgent need for a systemic approach and a set of integrated indicators to assist Latin American and the Caribbean policymakers in steering towards sustainable development. The main objectives of the project is to strengthen not only the technical capacities of beneficiary countries to produce relevant and comprehensive data sets to monitor indicators but also the national capacities of beneficiary countries to design and implement evidence-based policies and action plans, including activities and expected accomplishments oriented to create capacities to monitor and follow-up various indicators for sustainable energy oriented towards the achievement of SDG7. As an instrument to achieve the objectives, ECLAC proposes the design and the implementation of a “Regional Observatory on Sustainable Energies – ROSE”.
