Brief Description
In Africa, rapid urbanization is increasing the widening gap between rural, peri-urban and urban areas. Although urban and rural areas are interdependent, rural areas often lack behind; globally 85 % of the poor reportedly still live in rural areas. This project aims to support four African countries in strengthening their urban-rural linkages and overcoming the urban-rural divide by enhancing capacities of policy makers and change agents at all levels to collect and use evidence for fostering cross-sectoral, multi-level frameworks, strategies, and action plans for integrated and inclusive territorial development.
Objective and Expected Outcomes
Objective
To build and strengthen capacities of policy makers and change agents at all levels to collect and use evidence for fostering cross-sectoral, multi-level frameworks and action plans for integrated and inclusive territorial development that promotes urban-rural linkages and reduces the development gap.
Expected Outcome 1
Enhance the capacities of policy makers (in the four selected African countries and surrounding countries) to develop evidence-based national and regional urban development frameworks that promote strong urban-rural linkages and an integrated territorial development.
Expected Outcome 2
Enhanced capacities of policy makers to utilize this evidence for developing policies that strengthen urban-rural linkages.
