Brief Description

Climate hazard, ongoing climate change, violence, war, and other sudden onset disasters as well as other socioeconomic shocks tend to produce population movements with a speed and scale to which ecosystems and host populations struggle to adapt. If insufficiently managed, the environment often suffers from further degradation and over-exploitation. Consequences include pollution, deforestation, increased flood risk, landslides, encroachment into protected areas and collapse of fragile ecosystems. These consequences may also trigger migration and rapid unplanned urbanisation that increase the vulnerability of the significant population groups. The overall objective of this project is to support a low-impact and climate-sensitive humanitarian response to forced displacement and irregular migration, enhancing coordination between humanitarian and environment actors and better awareness and uptake of respective tool(s) for environmental assessment and management in humanitarian action.

Objective and Expected Outcomes

Objective
To enhance the capacities of selected developing countries affected by displacement to integrate environmental concerns into their national humanitarian action plans
Expected Outcome 1
Humanitarian actors working in the focus countries have the understanding and knowledge of the importance of incorporating environment into humanitarian response to displacement
Expected Outcome 2
Humanitarian actors in the target countries have the tools and capacity to incorporate environmental concerns into response plans and share experiences for learning by others
