Brief Description
The COVID-19 crisis disproportionately impacts the world’s poorest and most vulnerable populations, with significant intergenerational implications for poor families. In developing countries the large size of the informal economies, low levels of social protection and limited access to health care make their populations particularly susceptible to the effects of the pandemic. The project brings together all the five regional commissions (ECA, ECLAC, ESCAP, ECE and ESCWA) together with UNCTAD to facilitate interregional cooperation and sharing of experiences in addressing the impact of COVID-19 and building resilient societies through strengthening social protection systems, enhancing gender-responsiveness in policies and improving data collection and analysis for rapid identification of vulnerable groups.
Objective and Expected Outcomes
Objective
The overall objective of the project is to strengthen national capacities to design and implement social protection policies, with a gender perspective, for rapid recovery from COVID-19 and increase resilience, especially of the most vulnerable populations, to the negative impacts of future exogenous shocks.
Expected Outcome 1
Enhanced capacity for social protection
Expected Outcome 2
Strengthened care economy policies for the recovery
