Brief Description

This project is designed to enhance the climate change and disaster risk reduction statistical and institutional capacities of target countries in the Caribbean to improve policy coherence in the implementation of the SDGs, the SAMOA Pathway, the Paris Agreement, and the Sendai Framework. The main expected outcome of the project is an improved capacity of national statistical offices, and national environment, climate change and disaster risk reduction stakeholders in the four target/pilot countries to produce, sustain, disseminate and use relevant internationally-agreed climate change and disaster indicators and their underlying statistics. This outcome would be evidenced by at least three out of the four target/pilot countries having identified and produced climate change and disaster indicators for evidence-based gender, and other social groups, sensitive policymaking. Sustainability of the capacity-building process is at the core of this project. This will be achieved using sustainable tools, such as an online training module, and other mechanisms to share Caribbean knowledge through the establishment of a Caribbean online discussion group within the existing Regional Network on Environment Statistics for Latin America and the Caribbean. South-South cooperation is also a cross-cutting feature of this project, as Caribbean countries’ heterogenous statistical capacities allow for very effective exchanges among countries, through peer learning, in which those countries that are more advanced on statistical issues provide assistance to those that need further support.

Objective and Expected Outcomes
