Brief Description
There is an urgent need to support countries in strengthening their capacity to collect and use time use data, for better policies and approaches to implement the 2030 Development Agenda at local, national and regional levels. This has also been voiced by countries when they adopted the International Classification of Activities for Time Use Statistics (ICATUS 2016) at the 48th session of the UN Statistical Commission in March 2017, requesting to operationalize the classification and noting the need for guidance on how to implement it to produce internationally comparable time use data, using the latest technology. The project will contribute to building capacity in countries to produce and use time use statistics, in support of measuring and monitoring their national development plans and indicators, including SDG 5.4.1 on unpaid work, as well as other development issues such as employment and learning.
Objective and Expected Outcomes
Objective
To improve government capacity to effectively produce and use time use data in policy formulation for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in selected countries in Africa, Western Asia and Latin America
Expected Outcome 1
Improved and modernized methods that use latest technologies to produce time use data that are cheaper, faster and of highest quality, and that are in line with international standards, inform SDG indicators monitoring, and are available for the broader user community (national statistical offices, policy makers, academia).
Expected Outcome 2
Strengthened national capacity to produce and use time use data for higher quality data and improved data/policies integration at the national level.
