Brief Description

In 2018, countries in Asia-Pacific made nine national commitments to strengthen national statistical systems in the Declaration, Navigating Policy with Data to Leave No One Behind. This project will support five least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries meet these nine national commitments in four identified priority areas. It will build on ESCAP’s and ECE’s experience in supporting member States to strengthen National Statistical Systems and will leverage ESCAP’s membership of the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21) and lead role in the Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanisms’ Thematic Working Group on Statistics. The project will engage national, regional and international experts to support countries developing their own capacity. They will each identify a commitment (or commitments) to focus on to effect sustained change. They will support each other to share experiences and lessons learned and lead a regional dialogue at the conclusion of the project to share their experiences and lessons with the wider Asia-Pacific statistical community. As a result, there will be strengthened national statistical systems in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and national policy responses to COVID-19 by five least developed countries, small island developing States and landlocked developing countries in Asia and the Pacific.
