Brief Description
Prior to the pandemic outbreak, most countries in the Asia-Pacific region were already struggling with high levels of poverty and inequality. Without the necessary tools to measure inequality of opportunities and identify the population groups most in need of support, the effectiveness of policy interventions may be low. The project will use innovative and rigorous methodologies to assist policymakers to identify population groups furthest behind in access to a range of services and opportunities. The project will develop an easy-to-use online diagnostic tool that policymakers can use to measure inequalities and identify the population groups furthest behind in, for example, education completion, health care access, access to basic water, sanitation, clean energy and the internet. It will also include COVID-19 pandemic-related indicators, such as handwashing practices. At the end of the project, it is expected that policymakers will utilize the innovative diagnostic tools to enhance policies that better deliver on the pledge to Leave No One Behind.
