Brief Description

The momentum created by the adoption of the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean (known as the Escazú Agreement) and the expectations of its prompt entry into force offer an unparalleled opportunity for Latin American and Caribbean countries to advance towards enhanced environmental democracy and stronger and more coherent policies and approaches to implement the 2030 Agenda at all levels. By supporting countries in building national capacities and stepping up partnerships based on the broad engagement of society, Member States will transition to more transparent, participatory and inclusive societies. In this context, the project’s objective is to enhance the capacities of countries in access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters for the full and effective implementation of the Escazú Agreement in Latin America and the Caribbean as an enabler and driver of coherent policies and approaches for the 2030 Agenda at all levels, particularly to build back greener, fairer and better in a post-COVID 19 scenario.
